ABOUT US

GLJ Capital is an investment firm that makes debt and equity investments in middle market companies in the United States and Latin America. Additionally, GLJ Capital makes opportunistic investments in other asset classes throughout the United States and Latin America. In general, we invest up to $20 million of capital in companies that meet our investment criteria. GLJ can also arrange larger investments in collaboration with its partners, shareholders and related entities.

GLJ Capital differentiates itself by (i) having committed, evergreen capital, (ii) making available its extensive finance, operational, and management backgrounds to our portfolio companies, and (iii) having access to distinguished executives from the business and investment community.

INVESTMENT CRITERIA

GLJ Capital has a disciplined investment approach which builds upon its principal’s experience to grow its shareholder’s capital base. GLJ is actively seeking to invest its capital (both in debt and equity securities) in businesses that have some of the following characteristics:

  • Revenue greater than $5.0 million
  • EBITDA of at least $1.0 million
  • Experienced management teams with meaningful ownership
  • Strong industry fundamentals with favorable prospects
  • Diverse and loyal customer base
  • Private and public companies

Management Team

Marcos Jorge Leon, Managing Partner
Marcos has extensive experience in private equity, portfolio management, and asset management. Prior to GLJ Capital, Marcos founded Tamroc Partners, a small cap Private Equity firm based out of Boston, where he was responsible for sourcing and deploying capital into majority equity positions. Marcos also worked as an investment professional for Coventry Development Corporation, a multi-billion dollar asset manager with headquarters in NYC. Marcos has near ten years of experience investing in small and early-stage companies and serves on seven boards. Marcos earned his MBA from the Harvard Business School, and his BS in Finance from Babson College.

José I. Canto, Managing Partner
José has over a fifteen years of domestic and international investment experience. Prior to joining the firm, José was a Vice President at Deerpath Capital Management, LP, a lower middle market investment firm with over $600 million of assets under management. At Deerpath, José deployed over $150 million of capital in debt and equity investments throughout the United States in numerous industries. Additionally, José represented Deerpath on the Board of more than 10 companies, one of which was publicly traded. Prior to joining Deerpath, José was a Vice President at Arco Capital, an emerging markets investment firm. At Arco, José worked directly with the Chief Investment Officer to deploy over $350 million throughout Latin America and Eastern Europe. José earned his BS in Finance from Babson College.
John Johnson, Director
John joins GLJ with over twenty years of public and private company experience in various capacities. He started out his career as an actuary with an insurance holding company in Indianapolis, IN doing internal cash flow analysis and valuing the company’s acquisition targets. He then joined Anthem’s (NYSE:ANTM) M&A team where he was instrumental in the demutualization & IPO of the company and also several high-profile acquisitions including the $16.5 billion merger between Anthem & Wellpoint. After leaving Anthem, he took an advisory role to FedEx’s LATAM division in Puerto Rico where he had financial oversight for their Caribbean operations. After completing his tenure at FedEx, he was solicited for a role as director of finance & IT at National Financial Partner’s (NYSE:NFP) Puerto Rico subsidiary where he worked with NFP’s CFO to develop internal reporting standards & procedures. John then took a position at Arco Capital as portfolio manager for a multi-million dollar pool of international derivative securities. John has a BS in mathematics from Purdue University, is a CFA charterholder and a veteran of Operation Desert Shield/Storm.
Gabriela Gonzalez, Chief Financial Officer

Gabriela has over 10 years of experience in domestic and international taxation and accounting matters. Prior to joining GLJ Capital, Gabriela was a Senior Manager in the Real Estate Tax Group of Ernst & Young. While at EY she provided US tax compliance and tax consulting services for clients investing in US and non‐US real estate and debt instruments with combined assets in excess of $10 billion. Her clients included publicly traded Mortgage REITs, large real estate opportunity funds and their management companies. In addition to providing tax services, she assisted with US GAAP and IFRS audits for her tax clients. Gabriela is a licensed CPA in Florida and New York, having earned her MS in Taxation and her BS in Accounting from Bentley University.
